Alstom to Deliver 35 Additional RER NG Trains to Île-de-France Mobilités

Île-de-France Mobilités has contracted Alstom to supply an additional 35 RER NG trains for Line E, which spans between Paris and its eastern suburbs.

This follows orders in 2017 and 2023 for 131 RER NG units for RER lines E and D, the first of which was inaugurated at the end of 2023.

Île-de-France Mobilités’ order for an additional 35 RER NG vehicles is valued at 650 million EUR excluding VAT. It aims to supply the extension of Line E to Mantes-la-Jolie at the end of 2026.

The transport operator also expects to order additional RER NG units to replace the MI2N units on Line E and the Z2N trains on Line D in due course.

The RER NG has been designed to offer additional space while facilitating circulation. Compared to the previous generation of RER on Line E, it provides 20 percent more capacity.  It is also 100 percent accessible, with numerous widened doors and areas reserved for people with disabilities.

The new trains feature LED lights that adapt to different times of the day, real-time and connected passenger information, USB ports and intelligent air conditioning.

What’s more, to improve frequencies and reliability, the RER NG units will ultimately be equipped with the NExTEO automation system within a few years.
