Alstom’s RER NG Train Inaugurated in Île-de-France

Île-de-France Mobilités, SNCF Voyageurs and Alstom have inaugurated the RER New Generation (NG) train for the RER D and RER E lines in Île-de-France.

This new model is more spacious, brighter and more accessible than older units operating on these lines and has been specifically designed for use in dense urban areas.

The RER NG was officially inaugurated at Haussmann Saint-Lazare station in Paris in the presence of elected representatives and passengers

The arrival of the RER NG commuter train is an important component of Île-de-France Mobilités’ mission to upgrade all rolling stock on its railway network.

This model will be gradually introduced on the RER E line to ensure it provides a reliable service before being deployed on the whole RER E line, including the new extension to Nanterre. It will then be deployed on the RER D line at the end of 2024.

Henri Poupart-Lafarge, Chairman and CEO of Alstom said:

“It is with immense pride that we are today celebrating the commissioning of the RER NG commuter train on Line E. It is a very special moment in the life of a project when a train meets its first passengers. It is also a source of pride for all Alstom employees, as this is the pinpoint of a great deal of hard work from each and every one of them, serving a major project for the Île-de-France region and its inhabitants.”

The RER NG will contribute to improved journeys for the hundreds of thousands of commuters who use RER lines E and D each day.

For example, its design will optimise capacity and passenger flows thanks to its open architecture and wide doors.

The vehicle is also equipped with air conditioning, ergonomic seats, LED lighting adapted to the time of travel, USB sockets and multiple information screens.

What’s more, the RER NG’s acceleration and braking capabilities optimise station stopping times and train frequency to enhance the line’s capacity.

In the future, these trains will also incorporate the new NExTEO train automation, control and supervision system to further increase train frequencies.
