Trains and stations will be modernised with improved real-time information and the introduction of glazed facades on platforms, while automation will enable more reliable and frequent services for passengers, with an average of 40 trains per hour.

This work will also provide flexibility, with the ability to add train services on an ad hoc basis in response to an accident or large influx of passengers.

The project will be undertaken in two stages, starting with the introduction of a new generation of metro – the MF19 – which will increase capacity by 13 percent.

Adaptations to the line’s infrastructure will be carried out in order to accommodate these new vehicles, the first of which is scheduled to enter service mid-2027.

Further works will be undertaken in the second phase, including the adaption of checkpoints, construction of platform screen doors and equipping the vehicles with the necessary automation and operation systems.

Full automation of Line 13 should be achieved by 2035.
