Artex the Factory: Railway Interior Textiles

Artex is a manufacturer of railway interiors. The company was founded in 1928 and has vast experience in industrial sewing and upholstery as well as project management, meaning they can be trusted to oversee the whole process: development and engineering, production as well as delivery.

The in-house engineering team has mechanical, textile, chemistry, design, and product development competence and works in close collaboration with prototype makers and textile artisans. Artex’s facilities are in Sweden and Latvia, with around 350 people employed, refurbishing +20,000 seats on a yearly basis.

Artex designs, redesigns, refurbishes and upgrades train seats and other textile interiors. Their capabilities include custom stitching and embroidery, precise cutting technology and leather processing.

Sustainable and Cost-Efficient Solutions

Refurbishing train seats is a cost-efficient and sustainable choice, in line with the UN’s climate agenda 2030. For example, when refurbishing a train of 10 000 seats using Artex refurbishment skills, you save around €8 million and 600 Tons of CO2eq compared to making new purchases.

Artex is certified according to ISO-14001 and 9001.

Why Artex?

  • Cost savings: Low cost compared to buying new seats.
  • High capability: Approx. 350 employees and several production sites in Europe.
  • Sustainable options: Environmentally responsible materials and production methods.
