Czech rolling stock manufacturer CZ Loko has delivered the first of two EffiShunter 1000M locomotives to freight operator CER Cargo Holding.
The Hungarian operator, who is part of L.A.C. Group, received the locomotive in Jihlava at the end of June. High-level representatives from both parties attended the hand-over event. The second shunting locomotive will enter service in September 2020.
“Providing a reliable and well-functioning independent traction on the Hungarian and Slovak markets is of strategic importance for us. Due to the specifics of the local market and the railway network, independent traction gives us a clear competitive advantage. That is why the CER group is expanding its diesel fleet with reliable CZ LOKO locomotives.”
CER Cargo Holding operates other CZ Loko locomotives: the EffiLiner 1600, the EffiLiner 3000 and the EffiShunter 1600.
“Our locomotives have a huge potential in Hungary. After all, this is the fourth type of locomotive that we have delivered to CER Cargo Holding over the last three years.”
CER Cargo Holding will use the first EffiShunter 1000M locomotive in Slovakia and the Czech Republic via its subsidiary CER Slovakia. CER Hungary will be the primary operator of the second locomotive. In addition to Hungary it will also operate in Croatia. Consequently, the locomotives are fitted with the INDUSI and MIREL safety systems. They are also ETCS-ready.
The EffiShunter 1000M locomotives are upgraded versions of the old ČKD Class 742 locomotives. Essentially, it is an EffiShunter 1000 locomotive built on the original Class 742 locomotive platform. The EffiShunter 1000M locomotives feature hoods with a turret cab and a CAT 3508 C diesel engine with an output of 1000kW.
CZ Loko is producing a series of 50 of these locomotives for ČD Cargo.
