Netherlands: Qbuzz Orders New Commuter Trains from CAF

CAF has been awarded a contract to supply 10 commuter trains to Qbuzz, which is part of the FS Group in the Netherlands.

This contract also includes a corresponding spare parts package for the new trains once they are delivered from 2028.

Qbuzz provides public transport services in the region of Groningen-Drenthe, the city of Utrecht and in the region between Utrecht and Rotterdam.

Its new trains are part of CAF’s Civity platform and will be equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) signalling system.

Each train will consist of 3 cars and will operate at a speed of up to 160 km/h while carrying up to 350 passengers.

This investment is part of an initiative to improve public transport in South Holland by deploying more sustainable services on lines operating the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).

Specifically, these new units will run on the line between the cities of Dordrecht and Geldermalsen. They will replace existing units that are not equipped with the ERTMS signalling system.

This contract builds on CAF’s ongoing success in the Netherlands, including contracts with Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) to supply more than 200 commuter trains.
