Alstom has completed work on a new maintenance depot in Romania that will test and validate the nation’s new electric trains.
The new depot, situated in the Grivita area of Bucharest, is Romania’s first depot built for the maintenance and testing of electric trains and locomotives. Its location provides convenient access to Bucharest’s mainline railway.
“This is the first modern depot to be built in Romania in the last 30 years. The new maintenance facility will be equipped with the latest generation technology, matching, or even surpassing the most advanced depots in the world, including a digital control room for fleet management.”
The first of 37 EMUs ordered by the Authority for Railway Reform (ARF) is already stationed at the new depot to undergo mandatory testing.
Alstom is now actively recruiting for the new maintenance centre, with approximately 50 employees expected to join the project.

Along with maintenance operations, Alstom Grivita Depot is also dedicated for testing, validation and fine-tuning operations, to ensure that the new rolling stock reaches the performances required by the contracts.”
Alstom’s Coradia Stream train for ARF will now continue to undergo rigorous testing to meet European TSI regulations and national standards before commencing passenger service.
The testing will cover electrical, braking, propulsion systems and passenger comfort requirements. Meanwhile, the endurance tests will see the vehicles cover 10,000 kilometres on commercial lines.
