Throughout the modernisation programme, Alstom has prioritised the extensive reuse of materials for environmental and cost-saving benefits.

The interior layout of the trains has now been updated with an open design and new seating arrangements to facilitate quicker boarding and disembarking. The vehicles have also been equipped with new passenger information systems, more handrails and more safety cameras.

In total, 27,540 seats have been installed, 110,160 screws used, and 240 kilometres of cable laid.

Maria Signal Martebo, Managing Director of Alstom in Sweden said:

“For our operations in Västerås and for our local subcontractors, this project has been of significant importance, placing the Västerås workshop on the map internationally showing our expertise in the domain.”

This project was completed out in close collaboration with Alstom’s customer MTR and the end customer SL.
