Hitachi Rail has gained a new contract from the Municipality of Naples to supply 22 new-generation trains for Naples Metro Line 6.
This order is valued at 200 million EUR. It will see Hitachi Rail manufacture the new trains at its factories in Pistoia and Naples.
Phase one of the contract will include the construction of the first six new bidirectional metropolitan trains. These vehicles will enter service from 2026 to help increase service frequency, capacity and passenger comfort on the metro line.
“It is a fundamental step to enhance rail transport in the city with the latest generation trains that guarantee efficiency and safety to users. The Administration's efforts to equip the city with an increasingly articulated and technologically advanced transport system continue.”
Each of the newly ordered trains will be 39 metres long and will have capacity for 290 passengers.
The units will be equipped with Automatic Train Protection (ATP) to ensure safe operation of the trains. They will also feature an innovative air conditioning system for passenger comfort.
“Hitachi Rail is committed to providing sustainable and innovative mobility solutions worldwide.
