Polish locomotive leasing company, Cargounit has signed an agreement with Siemens Mobility for the delivery of up to 100 Vectron and Smartron locomotives.
Under this agreement, Cargounit has placed an initial order for 30 Vectron MS locomotives, alongside an option for an additional 60 units.

The Vectron units will have a power output of 6.4 MW in AC and 6.0 MW in DC. They will be equipped with an ETCS system and will operate in Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, Bulgaria and Belgium.
Meanwhile, Cargounit has also ordered 10 Smartron locomotives for operations in Germany, Bulgaria or Romania.
Łukasz Boroń, CEO of Cargounit said:The signing of the agreements with Siemens Mobility marks another milestone for Cargounit in implementing our strategy to modernise our fleet of locomotives for freight and passenger service in Poland and elsewhere in Central and Eastern Europe.
Over the past three years, we have significantly exceeded our original goals for purchasing and delivering state-of-the-art locomotives to customers in Poland, including multi-system locomotives. In the coming years, we plan to continue replacing older units with highly reliable, low-emission locomotives in line with the strategy of Cargounit and rail operators to increase sustainability in the rail sector. We are confident that Cargounit will benefit from this trend of modernising rolling stock in Central and Eastern European countries.
The ordered locomotives will contribute towards sustainable and efficient cross-border rail transport in Europe, with the first deliveries planned for 2025.
This agreement builds on Cargounit’s existing relationship with Siemens Mobility, increasing its fleet to include 66 Vectrons and 18 Smartrons.
Albrecht Neumann, CEO Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility said:With our Vectron locomotives, Cargounit is paving the way for sustainable and efficient cross-border rail transport in Europe. The new orders reaffirm Cargounit’s trust in one of the most modern and environmentally friendly universal locomotives available on the European market today.
