Alstom to Supply 20 Additional Movia C30 Metro Trains for Stockholm

Alstom has been contracted to supply an additional 20 Movia C30 metro trains for SL in Stockholm, Sweden.

This agreement exercises an option from an existing contract, which was originally signed with Bombardier in 2013 and has since been extended.

This contract included an initial order for 96 metro trains with an option for an additional 80.

The C30 metro trains are being delivered to SL to gradually replace the older C20 trains on Stockholm Metro’s Red Line. This is part of a modernisation and capacity increase that will enable SL to transport over one million passengers daily.

In addition, the model has also been approved to operate on the Blue and Green lines for future operations.

Maria Signal Martebo, Managing Director of Alstom in Sweden said:

“It has been a privilege to supply Stockholm with advanced Movia C30 metro trains. Even more gratifying is witnessing the expanded fleet. We take pride in delivering these exceptional trains with an excellent collaboration with SL. The positive reception of the design among the people in Stockholm is truly rewarding.”

The new carriages, which were designed in Germany, include pleasing details for passengers. For example, the ventilation holes under the windows incorporate symbols such as Pacman, crowns and hearts. Meanwhile, the modernised interiors offer improved accessibility, enhanced lighting and surfaces that maximise capacity.

With improved accessibility and passenger information, the vehicles have been designed to enhance passenger flow. This helps them contribute to shorter station dwell times, thus facilitating smooth network operations.

In addition, the trains are equipped with advanced technologies that will ultimately enable driverless operations.
