Delhi Metro Rail Academic Collaboration
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and the Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) relating to the exchange of intellectual resources and infrastructure of both organisations. The intention of the Delhi Metro Rail academic collaboration is to set the groundwork for a long-term partnership between the academic institution and industry corporation.
The Memorandum was signed at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation office at Metro Bhawan. The signatories were Sharat Sharma, Director of Operations at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, and Dr. C. P. Shrimali, Acting Director of the Management Development Institute. Present was Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and other senior officials.
The Memorandum will enabled the two entities to collaborate on the development of management level programmes for senior and middle level executives of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and students of MDI. The partnership will reinforce the scope of innovation and research. The programmes modules will be developed by faculty members from MDI and officers from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has proposed to arrange trips for MDI students at its stations, construction sites, depots and training institute in order to provide them with practical exposure relating to customer management, operations and management, project management and so forth. MDI has proposed that they will involve Delhi Metro Rail Corporation officers in their workshops, including meetings with business leaders, innovators and management students.
Both parties agreed that they will assist the other in the development of resolutions to the issues and challenges the rail industry, and related academia, face, in order to produce solutions and best practice. The two entities will also look at burgeoning opportunities in the international rail sector, and jointly bid for projects relating to capacity building, institution development, training and development programmes.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and MDI will set up a Joint Advisory Board to carry out periodic reviews of the progress of the project’s activities. The Board will be made up of two senior level officers from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and two faculty members form MDI. They will jointly monitor the qualitative aspects of the programmes on a regular basis.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation already works with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the Delhi Technological University (DTU) to look into elements of planning, management, operations and construction of the Metro Rail network.
