The PWF are the trade association for companies with a particular interest in rail freight wagons. Our members include wagon users, suppliers, maintainers, builders and others. Rail freight transport supports many industries and businesses in Great Britain. The provision of safe, reliable and efficient wagons is therefore important.
About PWF
- Established in 1977 we are governed and controlled by our members through our constitution.
- We engage with pertinent developments and initiatives through close liaison with government departments, standard setters, Network Rail, train operating companies and regulatory bodies.
- We support and update Members through our meetings, circulation of briefs and individual discussion.
- We are a member of UIP, the pan-European International Union of Wagon Keepers
Objectives
- To promote rail as a safe, efficient, cost effective and environmentally friendly means of freight distribution both nationally and internationally with the UK Government, the European Community and any other appropriate bodies
- To promote the general interests of freight wagon owners, users, builders and maintainers by liaison with Freight Operating Companies, Network Rail, UIC (via UIP membership), ORR, HMRI, DfT and other Government, 3rd party or EU agencies (via UIP membership) as appropriate
- To promote the development of more efficient freight wagons and the enhancement of the rail infrastructure for freight wagons
- To promote the safe design, construction and operation of freight wagons
- To ensure the conditions for acceptance, operation and registration of freight wagons used by members remain equitable to those applying to wagons owned by Freight Operating Companies
- To support members who commit to, or invest in, freight wagons to ensure they receive an adequate return on their commitment
- To promote the viability of freight wagon building, hiring and repairing industries to support the UK freight wagon users
