Latest News on Passenger Transport Industry at Women 1st 2013 Conference
Women 1st announced today that Ernst & Youngs managing partner – people for UK and Ireland and ambassador for diversity and inclusivity, Liz Bingham, is to speak at its 2013 Conference to highlight the importance of gender diversity for the UKs passenger transport industry.
The Women 1st Conference is the only event dedicated to women working in the UKs hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism industries. It will be held on 19 June at the London Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square. Liz will share gender balance best practice from other industries and demonstrate the tangible business benefits of diversity.
Women 1st is the brainchild of sector skills council People 1st, which set up the initiative in 2009 after it found that whilst almost 60 percent of the hospitality workforce is female, only six percent of board director positions are held by women. To date it has supported over 1,000 women through its training and mentoring programmes.
Sharon Glancy, founder of Women 1st, says: We are keen for our delegates to learn best practice methodologies from other industries and theres no better person to highlight these than Liz Bingham. She has successfully championed diversity at Ernst & Young and the organisation was named 2012 employer of the year in a recent equality index. Our industries can certainly learn a lot from her.
Liz Bingham says: I am looking forward to the Women 1st conference as the delegates will be from some of the UKs most dynamic businesses. I am keen to highlight that diversity gives organisations a competitive edge in todays fiercely competitive global marketplace. To compete effectively, employers need people with a range of experience and insight into new markets. So when we talk of boardroom representation in the future, it should include gender, age, culture, skills and life experience.
Following the conference, Women 1st will announce the winners of its annual Shine Awards, the only awards dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women working in hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism. Nominations can be made at: http://www.women1st.co.uk/awards/nominations.
