Structural Cab for Shunter Locomotives – XBODY® Lok

3A Composites Mobility: Structural Cab for Shunter Locomotives – XBODY® Lok

  • What is this product about?

XBODY® Lok is a structural cab solution for shunter locomotives. This structural, sandwich cab is a replacement for conventional welded steel or aluminum cab solutions. The design is based on the “cut and fold” method.

  • What materials are used?

XBODY® Lok uses a sandwich composition with aluminum edge profiles, aluminum cover sheets and PET foam in the core. For more flexibility in mounting equipment inside, the panels are designed and equipped with inserts.

  • What weight is reduced compared to the standard product?

For shunter locomotives, a weight saving of 20% is achieved compared to welded steel cabs.

  • What are the benefits for the shunter locomotive manufacturer?

The main benefits are the weight savings in the cab, the integration of interfaces (inserts, C-profiles) and the possibility of integrating additional functions into the sandwich panels, such as ventilation systems or wiring ducts. In addition, thermal bridges are reduced, and thermal and acoustic insulation is eliminated.

  • How is the structural cab for shunter locomotives installed?

Equip off-line and lift in the LOK and bolt down.

This XBODY® Lok floor can be assembled and fitted off-line and subsequently lifted – plug and play – to be bolted or welded to the locomotive undercarriage.

  • What possibilities are there for recycling this structural cab for shunter locomotives?

Every component, such as the aluminum covers, aluminum side profiles and thermal core foam can be separated and recycled appropriately.
