Altro Transflor Safety Flooring in Stuttgart’s Trams

The Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen (SSB) is an award-winning local transport company in Germany that keeps the “Stuttgarter Kessel” area moving.

The SSB operates 70 lines, 500 buses and trains, employs 2,800 people and has 600,000 passengers using its services on a daily basis. This great demand naturally requires the vehicles to be kept in excellent condition. So when the SSB embarked on a refurbishment project for 76 vehicles from stock, as well as the fit out of 20 new trains, sourcing the right flooring solution was essential.

Passenger safety requires that flooring is slip-resistant in all weather conditions – regardless of the shoe sole material worn. Furthermore, fire protection and compliance with fire, smoke and toxicity regulations are essential factors to consider in the choice of flooring. 12,500 m2 of Altro Transflor safety flooring proved the ideal safety flooring to meet these criteria.

Altro Transflor Safety FlooringThe SSB chose Altro Transflor TungstenTM for these projects.

With its 2mm thickness, this lightweight flooring is hard-wearing, safe, and includes a reinforced scrim to provide additional strength.

A fleece backing also ensures enhanced flexibility during installation and facilitates bonding, even in places that are narrow or difficult to access.

Thanks to its long-lasting durability, Altro Transflor Tungsten contributes to reduced repair and replacement costs in the long term. The flooring can be welded to grooved waterproof jointing which protects the subfloor against water penetration.
