Altro always aim for the highest standards, but few projects have ever taken us to the heights of the Emirates Air Line cable car in London.
Carrying passengers 90 metres above the river Thames, the Emirates Air Line provides stunning views of the capital’s most iconic landmarks as it soars between Greenwich Peninsula and the Royal Docks.
Since its launch on 28 June 2012, the Emirates Air Line – the first urban cable car in the UK – has established itself as a must see attraction with both tourists and native Londoners alike. Passenger ‘flights’ span a distance of just over one kilometre taking in spectacular views of St Paul’s Cathedral, the Gherkin, Thames Barrier, Maritime Greenwich and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The enormous popularity of the Emirates Air Line has now seen it provide over 7 million passenger journeys and become recognised as one of the best ways to see the sights of London in all their glory.
To meet the demands of this popularity, the attraction naturally required a flooring solution for its 34 cabins that was highly durable, safe and flexible to install. The cabins feature Altro Transflor Tungsten; an acrylic flooring solution that offers full fire, smoke and toxicity compliance as well as enhanced slip resistance.
A further benefit of Altro Transflor Tungsten to the project was the ease with which it could be installed; particularly in more confined areas. At 2mm thick, Tungsten is lightweight, flexible, easy to bond and impervious to water, a combination that provides long-lasting durability in high traffic areas.
