TransPennine Express Orders 126 New Carriages
TransPennine Express order 126 new carriages from CAF, supplementing a previous order from Hitachi Rail for bi-mode trains.
Spanish national railway operator RENFE has announced the four high-speed train suppliers to have been shortlisted to deliver up to 30 high-speed trains to operate on the Spanish network. The shortlisted companies to have passed pre-qualification are Alstom Transport, CAF, Siemens and Patentes Talgo. The tender also provides for the maintenance of vehicles for 30 years, with a possible extension of a further ten years.
On 10 November 2015 the RENFE Board of Directors approved the purchase of 15 high-speed trains with an option to extend. There followed a transparent and fair contest for competitors to submit bids as part of an open tender procedure.
The new RENFE fleet will feature the latest rolling stock technology. They will operate at 320km/h, be highly energy efficient and offer high levels of customer comfort, including wifi connectivity and onboard services. The trains will have two classes, 400 seats in total, catering facilities, and universal accessibility.
