Consortium of Bombardier JVs Awarded Beijing Airport Automated People Mover Contract

A consortium of two of Bombardier Transportation’s joint ventures in China has won a contract to supply the rolling stock, services and signalling for the automated people mover (APM) system at Beijing Capital International Airport.

The two Bombardier joint ventures involved in the consortium are, firstly, CRRC Puzhen Bombardier Transportation Systems Co., Ltd (PBTS) and secondly, Bombardier NUG Signalling Solutions Co., Ltd (BNS). The contract is worth around 215 million Chinese yuan (27.5 million euros | 30.5 million USD). Bombardier Transportation has a 50 percent stake in both joint ventures.

Contract Scope

The consortium will upgrade the 18 automated people mover cars, type Bombardier INNOVIA APM 100, currently operating at Beijing Airport. Furthermore, it will supply a further nine INNOVIA APM 300 cars, which will feature Bombardier’s MITRAC train control and management system and the MITRAC propulsion equipment. BNS will be responsible for providing the MITRAC components.

The consortium will also upgrade the existing signalling system along with the other wayside equipment from Bombardier’s CITYFLO 550 solution to its CITYFLO 650 solution.

Currently operating in over 30 airports / cities worldwide, we are confident that, in the future, our APM systems will continue to safely and efficiently move millions of passengers in many more airports and cities across the globe.”

Other Chinese airports that operate Bombardier’s APM system include Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Chengdu. The INNOVIA people movers also run on the urban lines of cities such as Guangzhou Zhujiangxincheng and Shanghai Pujiang.

Bombardier Transportation has seven joint ventures in China, along with six wholly foreign-owned enterprises.
