Talgo Avril High-Speed Trains to Enter Commercial Service in November

Rolling stock manufacturer, Talgo has announced that the first Talgo Avril very high-speed trains will be ready to enter commercial service on Renfe’s network from November 2023.

From this date, the commissioning of 30 very high-speed trains will happen in phases to make up Renfe’s 106 Series fleet.

In November, Talgo will make the first units of the Talgo Avril very high-speed train available to Renfe

Each train will be 200 metres long and will consist of 12 passenger cars at the same height as the platform, providing level boarding for all passengers.

These new units are capable of travelling at up to 360 kilometres per hour on any gauge while minimising energy consumption.

The units delivered to Renfe will feature a flexible technology platform that can switch between Iberian and international track gauges. They will thus be able to operate on any electrified section of the Iberian railway network to extend Europe’s high-speed network.

Talgo Avril currently holds the world speed record in Iberian gauge, reaching 360km/h in September 2022 on the Ourense-Santiago de Compostela high-speed line in Galicia.
