The installation took place beside a railway track running from the Kuckuckslay Tunnel towards the southwest town of Kordel near the Luxembourg border. The route ran along the River Kyll, which burst its banks during the severe European floods of July 2021, damaging 225 houses in the town and cutting off its water and power supplies.

A five-metre-high wall of steel sheet piles had been driven into the ground along the river embankment to provide earth retention and crucial excavation support. A series of 90-degree ARCOSYSTEM®️ sigma brackets were then securely fastened to a concrete head beam fitted atop the sheet piles. The lengthy project also included attaching the troughing to a bridge.

Installation at Kordel

The lightweight construction of the ARCOSYSTEM® pultruded troughing and its bespoke range of laser-cut bracketry enabled the job to be completed in a practical and timely manner. ARCOSYSTEM® is renowned for its flexible yet robust qualities. Designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, it has in this case delivered long-lasting protection to the inner cables and bolstered the line-side infrastructure, providing peace of mind for the rail companies and passengers.

ARCOSYSTEM® is manufactured by our Swiss partners, Castioni Kabelführungssysteme GmbH, and exclusively distributed in the UK by Complete Composite Systems, while the exclusive UK stockist is Scott Parnell.
