Laying cable troughing along a railway route can be a complex project, especially where trackside access is compromised by obstacles or topographical difficulties. That’s where the lightweight yet sturdy ARCOSYSTEM® comes in.

The composite construction of the elevated ARCOSYSTEM® troughing allows for flexible on-site handling, meaning tight trackside spaces are accessed efficiently and height or directional changes can be easily made during installation, especially with the customised range of laser-cut steel brackets providing a multitude of fitting angles.
Being lighter in weight also ensures the troughing can be post-mounted up to 6 metres between supports, or fastened to a variety of line-side features such as bridges, noise barriers, railings, tunnel walls, rock faces or steep hillside slopes.

Manufactured from pultruded glass fibre reinforced polymers (GRP/FRP), the sleek ARCO troughing is robust enough to protect all types and thicknesses of electrical cables, with the cell’s resistance to heat, water, corrosion and UV rays increasing its long-term durability.
The system’s array of accompanying specialist bracketry has recently been updated with an innovative ‘ClickFit’ style option. This allows site operatives to simply click the troughing cells into place with a gratifying snap, instead of sliding the troughs into the shoes of the brackets, making installation more straightforward on slanted ground and when working in slippery conditions.
The drive for technological advancement never stops, and the Rapid Route technique – fitting ARCOSYSTEM® via Sigma Posts atop specially designed Anchor Screws developed by our partners Anchor Systems Ltd – speeds up installations without the need to excavate and use cast in-situ posts, further reducing a project’s carbon emissions.

Key benefits of ARCOSYSTEM®:
- Safely encloses & protects all types of high-voltage power, signalling and digital communication cables for lengthy runs alongside railway tracks
- Carries cable loads of up to 90kg/m
- Engineered GRP construction provides strong resistance to heat, water, corrosion, and UV rays compared to more common materials
- Can work reliably in temperatures between -40°C and +80°C
- Long lifespan and environmental sustainability
- Twin-walled troughing design ensures the system can resist lateral forces from embankment subsidence, high snow loads and wind effects from high-speed trains
- Unaffected by continuous freeze-thaw cycles, and a wide range of chemicals
- Troughing is available in various cell sizes to accommodate a wealth of cable load requirements or space restrictions
- Composite construction helps reduce carbon emissions – an independently verified life cycle assessment (LCA) carried out as part of an official Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is available to view
