The site is a centre of competence for bogies. It is where Bombardier develops, manufactures, services and overhauls its FLEXX bogies for international operators.

Dirk Kütting, Head of the Service Department for Bogies & Drives, Bombardier Transportation, said:

“We are proud to have cracked the 10,000 reworked bogies milestone since the service department was founded.

“Being able to deliver this impressive number is a credit to our approximately 800 highly motivated and dedicated employees.”

The bogie competence centre opened in 2003, growing from servicing around 90 bogies per year to more than 1,000 annually. The site overhauls bogies from more than 70 different customers.

Each bogie is designed to have a lifespan of 30 to 40 years and they are one of the most safety-relevant components in rail vehicles. They undergo scheduled maintenance, repairs and technical upgrades to extend their life-cycle as much as possible. The site overhauls bogies from a number of manufacturers, not just Bombardier.
