Stadler Rail Service UK has been awarded a full-service contract extension to continue maintaining Greater Anglia’s fleet of 58 FLIRT bi-mode and electric multiple units for the next two years.

Both parties have signed a full extension that seeks to ensure the continuity of both maintenance and technical support for one of the UK’s most active fleets.

Stadler has signed an extension to continue maintaining the FLIRT units it delivered to Greater Anglia in 2019

The milestone coincides with Stadler’s tenth anniversary in the UK, with the company having initially been contracted to deliver Greater Anglia’s FLIRT trains in 2016. The trains then subsequently entered service in 2019, and have become a mainstay of the operator’s regional and intercity routes – thanks largely to their bi-mode technology, which allows service on both electrified and non-electrified lines.

Greater Anglia’s fleet has now surpassed 50 million miles in passenger service – equivalent to over 2,000 trips around the world. The trains have contributed to the transformation of Greater Anglia’s services throughout the region, improving accessibility, capacity, passenger comfort and overall resilience.

Paul Patrick, Managing Director for Stadler Rail Service UK, said:

We’re proud to continue our successful partnership with Greater Anglia. The contract extension is a strong vote of confidence in our team and the quality of our services. Over the past ten years, we’ve significantly grown our footprint in the UK, with operations across the country including Norwich, Newcastle, Liverpool, Glasgow and Cardiff, creating skilled jobs and investing in local communities.

We look forward to building on this success and further strengthening our position in the UK rail industry.
