Alstom to Supply 18 Coradia Lint DMUs to Baden-Württemberg

The train operator in the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg, SFBW, has ordered 18 Coradia Lint trains from Alstom. The manufacturing site for these regional trains will be in Salzgitter, Lower Saxony. This is the same site that has also manufactured this train’s hydrogen-powered sister version, the iLint, for operation in Germany. Alstom says it will deliver this new order in the second half of 2020. SFBW will run these trains on the Zollernalbbahn network. The contract is worth 80 million euros (90.7 million USD).

SFBW previously ordered 15 diesel multiple units (Coradia Lint) from Alstom. These two-car trains entered service for the operator in southwest Germany this month.

The 18 trains from this order as well as the 15 trains from the previous order have a maximum operating speed of 140km/h. The low-floor DMUs have 150 seats with spaces for 18 bicycles, spread out over two cars. Almost all of the seats come with tables. Furthermore, passengers can enjoy wifi on these trains along with an entertainment system. The passenger information display presents both static and dynamic information. Lastly, video surveillance contributes to the safety of the passengers.

Jörg Nikutta, Managing Director, Alstom, Germany and Austria, said:

“Following the delivery of these trains there will be a total of 33 of our proven and reliable Coradia Lint vehicles in operation in Baden-Württemberg. With this order we will once again prove our delivery reliability, accommodating an extremely tight timeframe. As with the delivery for the ‘Ulmer Stern’ network, we will manufacture and deliver the trains in less than a year and a half.”
