To close off 2019 Alstom has delivered the first Prima M4 locomotive to Morocco. Alstom signed a contract with ONCF, Morocco’s national railway operator, for the delivery of 30 electric Prima locomotives back in 2018.
The 30 locomotives are being manufactured in France. However, Alstom’s team in Morocco will oversee the testing, warranty service and maintenance works.

Prima M4
The Prima M4 locomotives have a nominal power of 5.5 MW. The maximum running speed is 160km/h. Being electric, the M4 uses 3KV DC. All 30 of the locomotives are fitted with ETCS Level 1. Alstom says they will require minimal maintenance and will be highly reliable. Furthermore, the modular design should ensure low life-cycle costs.
Nourddine Rhalmi, Managing Director, Alstom Morocco, said:Over the past ten years, 20 Alstom electrical locomotives have been put into commercial service by ONCF. We are proud, today, to contribute to grow up the first fleet and to support ONCF in this major project to develop the railway infrastructure solutions throughout the country.
Alstom has sold in excess of 3,000 locomotives from its Prima range to date.
