HÜBNER Is a Proud Partner of Siemens Mobility in Egypt – Order for Gangways and Driver Assistance Systems
In the expansion of the Egyptian rail network, the HÜBNER Group will be a supplier of important products for Siemens Mobility. HÜBNER will be delivering gangway systems for both the Velaro high-speed trains and the Desiro high-capacity regional trains. In addition, the Gersys GmbH, which belongs to the HÜBNER Group, will be equipping the Vectron freight locomotives for Egypt with driver assistance systems.
Siemens Mobility and HÜBNER have now finalized the contract for this order at the industry’s leading trade fair InnoTrans in Berlin. At the end of May 2022, Siemens Mobility and its consortium partners Orascom Construct and The Arab Constructors signed a contract with the Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), a government agency under the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, to build the world’s sixth-largest high-speed rail system.
“We are proud that Siemens Mobility has chosen to rely on products from the HÜBNER Group for the gangway and driver assistance systems for this order, which is largest in its company history. At the same time, we see a confirmation of the advantages coming from our global production network which we will continue to optimize. This approach also makes it possible for us to procure needed goods even in uncertain times so that we can continue to deliver products efficiently, reliably and in our usual high quality.”
Siemens Mobility will be constructing a 2,000-kilometer-long high-speed rail network which will connect 60 cities. To equip the entire rail network, Siemens Mobility will deliver trains based on proven vehicle platforms. These include 41 eight-car Velaro high-speed trains and 94 four-car Desiro high-capacity regional trains.
The order for HÜBNER has a volume of 105 high-speed gangways in its initial basis and a possible option for a further 182 gangways for a total of 41 trains. Siemens Mobility’s contract partner for the deal is HÜBNER GmbH & Co. KG, which will be utilizing the strength of the global production network of the HÜBNER Group. This includes the HÜBNER locations at the Kassel headquarters in Germany, a new factory currently under construction in Bangalore, India, as well as the companies HÜBNER-H Kft. in Nyíregyháza, Hungary, and PolymerTechnik Ortrand GmbH (PTO) in Brandenburg, Germany, which also belong to the group.
“Our gangway systems are well-known, but the HÜBNER Group also offers much more. We are very pleased that we have been able to favorably impress Siemens Mobility with our diverse product portfolio. As a system supplier with a high level of vertical integration in manufacturing and value creation, we produce nearly all of the product components within our own company group.”
Another part of the Egyptian order for Siemens Mobility is 41 Vectron freight locomotives. These will be equipped with EBuLa 7900 driver assistance systems from Gersys GmbH. The Gersys company has been part of the HÜBNER Group since 2019 and manufacturers at its headquarters in Wolfratshausen, Germany, close to Munich.
