HS2 Launches Search for Engineering Management System Contractor

HS2 Ltd has started its search for a specialist contractor to deliver monitoring systems that will allow personnel to have remote supervisory control over the high-speed railway’s assets and systems.

This contract covers the design, manufacture, installation, integration, testing and commissioning of an integrated Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system that will be operational across the entire HS2 network. The contract will also include up to 25 years of technical support.

The engineering management system (EMS) will provide an integrated SCADA layer by consolidating several SCADA systems from several domains and contracts. This will allow staff at the Network Integrated Control Centre in Birmingham and other locations to monitor the status of HS2 assets and systems in real time, which will make both operating and maintaining the railway easier.

The EMS contract is worth in the region of 65 million GBP and will use diagnostic and analytical functionality to enable predictive maintenance.

David Poole, Procurement and Commercial Director, HS2 Ltd, said:

“HS2's Engineering Management System will play a crucial role in the operation and maintenance of the network, allowing operational personnel and engineers to monitor and analyse the condition of the infrastructure in real time. This data will make it possible for maintenance to be planned in advance allowing HS2 to run some of the most reliable services anywhere in the world.

“With construction now well underway and more than 15,000 jobs already supported by the project, these contract opportunities are another important opportunity for companies across the UK to get involved in delivering Britain's new high speed rail line.”

HS2 Ltd will announce shortlists this summer and award the contract in 2022.
