Ground-Breaking for Dallas Area Rapid Transit Silver Line

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and local dignitaries broke ground on the Silver Line on 19 September. This new 26-mile regional railway line will connect Plano to Dallas Forth Worth International Airport.

Events to mark the ground-breaking took place in five cities – Addison, Plano, Dallas, Carrollton and Richardson, as well as DFW International Airport.

The Silver Line is to open in December 2022. Costing 1.1 billion USD, the line will allow passengers to get to and from the airport by rail. Once complete, the Silver Line will serve seven cities. They are: Grapevine, Coppell, Dallas, Carrollton, Addison, Richardson and Plano.

In total the Silver Line will have ten stations. It will also link up to three existing railway lines. They are: the Red/Orange Lines in Richardson/Plano; the Green Line in Carrollton; and the Orange Line at DFW International Airport. The Silver Line will also connect to the Trinity Metro TEXRail Regional Rail Line at DFW International Airport. This regional rail line runs to Fort Worth.

Stadler is manufacturing the rolling stock for the Silver Line.
