CN, UP and GMXT Create Mexico-US-Canada Intermodal Service

Canadian National Railway (CN), Union Pacific Railroad (UP) and GMXT have established Falcon Premium, a new intermodal service between Mexico, the US and Canada.

The Falcon Premium intermodal service will directly connect all CN origin points in Canada and Detroit to GMXT’s terminals in Monterrey and Silao in Mexico.

CN, Union Pacific and GMXT have created Falcon Premium to provide a best-in-class Mexico-US-Canada service with a seamless rail connection in Chicago

This service will benefit customers shipping automotive parts, food, freight of all kinds (FAK), home appliances and temperature-controlled products.

It will leverage GMXT’s best-in-class transit times between Silao, Guanajuato and Eagle Pass, Texas, as well as Union Pacific’s route from Texas to Chicago and CN’s connection between Chicago and Canada through the EJ&E Chicago bypass.

By combining each partner’s benefits, it plans to be the fastest, most reliable intermodal rail service operating between Canada and Mexico.

Tracy Robinson, President and Chief Executive Officer, CN said:

“Falcon Premium service is a game changer for intermodal customers. By leveraging each partner's best services and routes, we are creating a transformational new product. Our commitment is to run this service with the utmost focus to maximise speed, reliability, and customer satisfaction. This service is an example of how collaboration and cooperation can improve supply chains for customers.”

This new service will directly compete with Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern’s recent merger and its partnership with Schneider National to provide an intermodal transportation service between the US and Mexico.
