CAF Receives Order for 28 Electric Trains from Renfe

Renfe has ordered 28 electric trains from CAF. These will operate on the Spanish operator’s medium distance services.

This is part of a major investment plan by Renfe, which includes upgrading much of its fleet to more environmentally-friendly trains.

As part of the contract, valued at 300 million EUR (291.42m USD), CAF will also provide related spare parts and 15 years of comprehensive maintenance services for 17 of the trains.

There are also options to expand the contract, including the opportunity to order a total of 42 additional units.

The Renfe trains will reach top speeds of 200 kilometres per hour and their onboard batteries will enable the units to run short distances where there is no catenary or when a power cut occurs.

CAF and Renfe have a long-standing relationship. Prior to this order, CAF was awarded the contract to supply 37 narrow gauge trains in 2020.
