Bombardier Uses the ITCS Platform DatNet from ETC For New Trains in South Tyrol
The state of South Tyrol has ordered a total of seven new “Talent 3” trains from the rail vehicle manufacturer Bombardier for cross-border transports from Italy to Austria. The vehicles not only have the three necessary drive and safety systems, but also a modern real-time passenger information system. For the digitisation of the necessary disposition processes, connection security and passenger information, Bombardier, together with Südtiroler Transportstruktur AG (STA), relies on the modular platform solution DatNet from ETC Solutions GmbH.
The DatNet, which works in multiple languages throughout, provides all the necessary interfaces and data flows. In particular, the regional real-time, communication and information platform (EKAP) is connected via standardised interfaces. In addition to well-known interfaces such as VDV 462 / NeTEx, interfaces in accordance with the European SIRI standard are used, e.g. for the transmission of delay forecasts in real time (SIRI-ET), fault reports (SIRI-SX) or for coordinating connections (SIRI-CM) .
For work in the STA control centre, innovative, web-based interfaces are available for monitoring, controlling and documenting daily operations. Communication with the vehicles takes place through the use of the DatNet ROI (Railway Operation Interface), which converts the real-time forecasts, dispositive measures and information on connections into Bombardier-specific vehicle telegrams. This ensures seamless communication with the fleet, regardless of the country in which the vehicles are currently traveling.
In the future, further functionalities such as a live load forecast or the connection of the systems of the infrastructure ÖBB and RFI can be flexibly integrated into the system.
Bombardier Transportation is a leading global manufacturer of mobility solutions and has a broad portfolio in the rail industry. The product range includes the entire spectrum of rail-bound vehicles, vehicle components as well as signal and control technology.
As an in-house company of the mobility department of the South Tyrolean provincial administration, the STA is organised under private law as an AG with 100 percent participation by the province of South Tyrol. Since the beginning of the 1990s, it has developed into a competent partner in the planning and implementation of innovative, sustainable and safe mobility concepts.
