Bespoke Electric Roller Blinds for the Rail Industry

Texat decor engineering AG (Tde) is a Swiss-based provider of interior solutions for the transport sector.

The company offers a wide range of bespoke shading solutions and floor coverings for the rail industry, including cable-guided roller blinds and entrance dust mats.

Many of its products can be found today in operational rolling stock across Europe, the Middle East and America.

Electric Roller Blinds for Drivers’ Cabs

Tde is currently seeing an increasing demand for roller blinds with electric drives, in particular for use in drivers’ cabs.

Christoph Zürni, Managing Director, Sales and Marketing at Tde explains, said:

“This is partly because the inclination of the windscreen is flatter due to aerodynamics and partly so the driver doesn’t have to change their seating position in order to operate the blind.”

In response to this growing demand, the company offers a variety of STOROrail electric roller blind solutions, from gravity roller blinds through to freely programmable electric cable roller blinds with belt drives.

These can all be manufactured to meet the industry’s various on-board voltages, from 12 through to 230CV.

Important criteria for electric roller blind systems include quiet operation, full height adjustability and the use of fire-tested materials and Tde’s products meet the fire protection standard EN-45545-2 HL3 R1.

A High Degree of Customisation

One of Tde’s strengths lie in the high degree of customisation it offers, even in small production runs.

Rather than choosing from a range of products, the customer instead informs the manufacturer of their vehicle’s design, their technical requirements and, if possible, 3D data, which Tde then uses to develop an initial solution proposal.

As well as designing a product that meets the specific design of any given vehicle, Tde can also customise the final product’s appearance to match company branding, producing blinds in a variety of different materials, colours and finishes.

Zürni explains:

“We don’t offer a product catalogue as our philosophy is that it’s better to adapt our blinds to the customer’s requirements rather than adapt the customer’s situation to meet the specifications of our roller blinds.”

Simple and Swift Assembly

Another benefit of choosing Tde electrical roller blinds is their very short and simple assembly time. The elements supplied by Tde are ready-to-fit, so installation is easy to integrate into the customer’s production process.

Zürni says:

“Whenever possible we aim to deliver ready-to-install and preset roller blinds to our customers.

“If we’re involved in an early stage of the design, we can develop our customer-specific solution so that when it comes to installation at the customer’s site, minimal work is required for the blind to be ready for use.”
