Transport Minister to Deliver Keynote Address at Annual Rail Industry Forum

Huw Merriman MP, the Minister of State (Rail and HS2) at the Department for Transport, is to give a keynote address at this year’s Rail Industry Forum, where there will also be an important update on the Rail Transformation Programme.

Rail industry leaders will gather at the international law firm Addleshaw Goddard in London on Tuesday 6 December, to discuss some of the biggest challenges facing the sector. The forum will explore a variety of issues, with a particular focus on what reform could mean for all areas of the sector and meeting passenger requirements.

The keynote speaker at this year’s forum will be newly appointed rail minister, Huw Merriman MP. Before his ministerial career, Mr Merriman sat on the Transport Select Committee and served as its chair between 2020 and 2022.

Anit Chandarana, Lead Director at Great British Railways Transition Team, will give an important update on the rail transformation programme, while Maggie Simpson OBE, Director General at Rail Freight Group, will explore growth opportunities for freight in 2023 and how to overcome challenges presented by rail reform.

Other key talking points under discussion will be how to improve customer experience and meeting passenger needs, how to unlock and accelerate innovation and technology in the rail sector, and the role of rail in delivering ‘Levelling Up’.

The one-day event will be chaired by David Clarke, Technical Director working at Railway Industry Association (RIA).
