Helsinki metropolitan area metro – long-term signalling development
Mipro has supported the development of the Helsinki metropolitan area metro signalling system for more than ten years. Deliveries for the West Metro and the original Helsinki Metro have established Mipro’s SIL4-certified Computer-Based Interlocking (CBI) and traffic management systems as a central part of the network’s signalling architecture.
This proven platform is now being developed further as part of the METKA programme, which renews key train control and train detection systems to improve capacity, reliability and lifecycle sustainability. Mipro is integrating the existing interlocking with the new Automatic Train Control system supplied by CAF and with a new axle-counting system. The delivery includes system interfaces, interlocking modifications, integration, testing and commissioning. A phased migration approach allows existing and new systems to operate in parallel during the transition, enabling controlled modernisation while the Mipro interlocking remains the safety-critical core.
Digirail EKA – EULYNX-based modular signalling architecture
Mipro is a key supplier in Finland’s Digirail programme and the first commercial ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 track section, EKA. Mipro supplies the SIL4 EULYNX-based Object Controller System (OCS), which forms the interface between the Centralised Safety System (CSS) and trackside equipment including points, signals, level crossings, axle counters and generic I/O.
The EKA project is a multi-vendor implementation in which the CSS and Object Controllers are delivered under separate contracts and integrated through standardised EULYNX interfaces. Mipro also supplies the CTC system and ATO-TS functionality for testing. The architecture supports interoperability, cybersecurity, controlled system evolution and reduced dependency on proprietary wayside integrations, providing a practical foundation for future ETCS deployments and long-term railway modernisation.
