Stuttgarter Strassenbahnen Orders 40 More Trams from Stadler

Stuttgarter Strassenbahnen (SSB) is expanding its fleet by ordering 40 new S-DT8.16 light rail vehicles from Stadler.

This will bring SSB’s fleet up to 100 LRVs and three rack vehicles from Stadler.

The order also includes options for up to 30 further light rail vehicles.

Stadler previously provided SSB with its S-DT 8.12 trams

In contrast to the vehicles from Stadler’s previous series of LRVs, the S-DT8.16 is more energy efficient.

The new two-part, high-floor bidirectional vehicles are 40 metres in length and 2.65 metres wide, with space for over 250 passengers.

They have outward pivoting sliding doors on each side and offer step-free access. Upon delivery, they will be put into service across the Baden-Württemberg state capital network.

Jure Mikolcic, CEO Stadler Germany, said:

“We’re very pleased to continue this cooperative partnership with SSB, which started in 2009.

“This new supply contract for modern, optimised vehicles is something special and shows SSB’s trust in Stadler, which it has chosen to provide almost its entire rail vehicle fleet.”
