Stadler to Supply 9 FLIRT XL Vehicles for Berlin–Szczecin Line

Stadler has signed a contract to supply nine FLIRT XL vehicles to DB Regio for cross-border traffic between Germany and Poland on the Berlin–Szczecin route.

These electric multiple units will be equipped with the Stadler’s Guardia ETCS solution, which has been approved for use in both Germany and Poland.

The nine four-part FLIRT XL vehicles will be used on the new regional express line RE9. This line has improved travel times between Berlin Airport and Szczecin by around 20 minutes.

In addition, they will operate on line RB66 from Angermünde to Szczecin and on some seasonal route extensions.

Jure Mikolčić, CEO Stadler Germany said;

“We are proud that we can once again develop and build trains in Berlin that are used in the region. The equipment with the state-of-the-art Guardia train protection system helps to reduce travel times and thus improve connections significantly.”

The FLIRT XL units will have extra long car bodies and space for around 380 passengers, 255 of them seated. The trains will have five doors on each side of the vehicle to allow passengers to efficiently board and disembark the vehicles.

In addition, four multi-purpose areas will have the capacity for up to 21 bicycles, strollers or wheelchairs per train.
