Siemens Receive Order for 23 Electric Locomotives from DB Schenker Rail Polska
DB Schenker Rail Polska S.A., has placed an order with Siemens today for 23 electric locomotives which it will deploy for it’s freight services in Poland, worth a value in the “high double-digit million” range according to Siemens.
DB Schenker Rail Polska is the largest private rail freight company in Poland and is the Polish subsidiary of European DB Schenker Rail. The granting of the contract to Siemens sees them receive their largest order for their Vectron locomotive generation which has been designed with the specific needs and requirements of Europe in mind.
Siemens have already designed a version of their Vectron train for DB Schenker Rail Polska which will operate on the Polish DC network and is fitted with the correct train protection equipment required in for use in Poland. The certification for the vehicles was received by Siemens in September (2012) and the new order of Vectron locomotives will start to be shipped immediately to DB Schenker Rail Polska, with completion due by 2015.
Siemens Vectron Central Stock Concept
Part of the order includes Siemens Vectron Central Stock concept which ensures DB Schenker Rail Polska will have access to Siemens spare parts within 24 hours and allowing orders to be placed online via Siemens “RailMall” webshop.
Speaking of the latest order, Siemens CEO of Rail Systems Jochen Eickholt said “this is already the third order for our newly developed locomotive platform. A particularly pleasing aspect is that we were also able to secure an option for a further 13 locomotives”.
The locomotives will be manufactured in Siemens Munich plant and manufactured to the highest quality using the latest technology.
