Renfe Purchases 97 New Trains for Fleet Renewal Plan

Renfe has purchased an additional 97 new Cercanías and Media Distancia trains as part of its train fleet renewal plan.

This marks an investment of 858.4 million EUR in new rolling stock.

With these contracts, Alstom will supply 49 Coradia Stream high-capacity Cercanías trains at a cost of 367.6 million EUR; Stadler will provide 20 200-metre long Cercanías trains, costing 307.7 million EUR; and CAF will manufacture 28 Media Distancia trains for 183 million EUR.

The 28 trains that CAF will build for Regional services will have all the comfort elements to cover journeys of more than 60 minutes

These orders are part of the operator’s thorough renovation of its fleet to deliver more modern, efficient and sustainable rail services.

With these latest contracts, Renfe’s investment in its fleet renewal plan now exceeds 5,400 million EUR for 519 new vehicles.
