Institution of Railway Signal Engineers Thai Chapter Launched

Bombardier Transportation and other industry, academic and government parters have marked the launch of the newly established Institution of Railway Signal Engineers Thai Chapter. The establishment of the chapter was achieved by working with with Kasetsart University and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, as well as industry partners Siemens, Magnate Grey Box International (MGBI) and the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).

A ceremony was held on 27 July 2016 at Kasetsart University, which was the culmination of 12 months of planning and working. The project was led by Bombardier and the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers. The project is expected to foster industrial and educational collaboration, which will enhance professional recognition of Thailand’s rail sector and launch the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers onto the international market.

The Institution of Railway Signal Engineers is a professional institution which is intended to promote the advancement of the science and practice of railway signalling and telecommunications for the benefit of the public, to make railways safer and more efficient. They also aim to sustain high standards of practice and professional care among professionals who operate in the industry.

It serves professionals working within the rail industry specifically relating to railway signalling and telecommunications, train control, traffic management and associated disciplines. Although its headquarters are based in London, more than 50% of its members are from other countries.

Gregory Enjalbert, Head of Asia Pacific, Rail Control Solutions, Bombardier Transportation, said:

“Developing local expertise is core to Bombardier values and has been a fundamental part of our presence and growth in Thailand and further realised through our local university partnerships for the development of rail education. The launch of this new IRSE Section is an important next step for cross-stakeholder partnership in developing signalling knowledge and research in Thailand.”

Bombardier has worked with the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers as a long-standing supporter and participant in numerous countries. Bombardier recently supported the establishment of the Malaysia Section of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers.
