Poland: PKP Intercity Takes Over First 6 EffiShunter 300 Locomotives

CZ Loko is delivering the first six EffiShunter 300 locomotives out of ten to PKP Intercity, having left Česká Třebová for Poland on 26 October.

The remaining four locomotives will be delivered by March 2023.

Jan Kutálek, Commercial Director, CZ Loko, said:

“In the past, we had several projects in Poland, but this delivery of small EffiShunters is a major and important project for the Polish customer after a long time. We believe that the locomotives will prove themselves in operation and our cooperation with PKP Intercity will not end with this ten-piece series and be further continued.”

The EffiShunter 300 has a CAT C13B combustion engine with a power output of 328kW, which meets the EU’s Stage V emission standards (the highest standards).

PKP Intercity also requested that the locomotives have loudspeaker monitoring in the driver’s cabin, semi-automatic couples and a camera system.

In order to be allowed to operate in Poland, the locomotives have also been fitted with the national SHP train control system and CA vigilance monitoring device.

Further, the locomotives are equipped with a digital control system, online diagnostics, the option of multi-control operation and anti-slip protection.

Long-distance passenger service operator PKP Intercity will use the lightweight two-axle locomotives primarily for light shunting in depts and parking stations. Of the first six locomotives, four are for Warsaw, two for Krakow. The remaining four will go to Gdansk and Katowice.

Jan Kutálek:

“Thanks to the combination of low acquisition and operating costs, together with usability, these vehicles have been part of the rolling stock of the Czech Railways, the Railway Research Institute and several other operators abroad for several years.”

The locomotives are approved for operation in Slovakia, Serbia, Czech Republic and Poland.
