On 15 Oct. 2016, the first of two CRRC locomotives were shipped from Shanghai Seaport. They will arrive in Argentina at the end of November.

CRRC, China, is supplying 107 diesel locomotives, and 3,509 freight cars to Argentina under contracts signed in December 2014.

This is the second time that locomotives, made by CRRC Qishuyan Co., Ltd., have been supplied to Argentina, after 24 were delivered back in 2013.

Also announced this week was the supply of three heat-resistant locomotives, tailor-made for Ethiopia that have been put to use on Africa’s first electric rail line.

The electric locomotives, designed and manufactured by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive Co. Ltd., have gone through a series of tests on the line linking Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, with Djibouti City, capital of the Republic of Djibouti. The line runs through a plateau and desert region and is very demanding technically.

Thirty-two locomotives for cargo transportation, each with a power of 7,200 kilowatt, will also be delivered soon.
