Bombardier Transportation and Electro-Move Diesel have announced that they will join forces to develop diesel-electric trains in India.

Joint responsibility

The trains, which will be delivered by Bombardier to EMD, will be exported to South-East Asia and the Pacific. The manufacturing of certain components will be undertaken by Bombardier, with the engineering and quality control being EMDs responsibility.

India the best place to manufacture

EMD, who have manufactured around 700 trains in India, said: India was the best place to manufacture locomotives for that market. India is an industry-friendly nation, and theres a growing railway supply industry base there for meeting our needs.

EMD currently have an engineering centre of excellence in India, as well as a manufacturing plant which caters specifically for the Indian market.

Transform Indian rail industry

Speaking on their collaboration with EMD, Bombardier Transportation President Andre Navarri said: Bombardier and EMD will help transform the rail transportation industry in the region by leveraging both of our companies capabilities.

He went on to say,

By further expanding its global relationship with EMD, Bombardier will provide best-in-class products in keeping with its tradition of quality and extend its range of rail vehicle manufacturing in India.
