Network Rail and contractor VolkerFitzpatrick have completed the refurbishment of Romford station.
This work was part of Network Rail’s Crossrail programme to upgrade existing surface stations that now provide access to the Elizabeth line.
As part of this project, the station’s interior was completely refurbished, with circulation space increased, a new northern entrance and improvements to the existing entrances.
The staffed ticket office has also been moved to the ground floor from the mezzanine level. This will improve access to ticketing services and customer information as well as overall operation of the station.
Accessibility has also been improved via new lifts that provide step-free travel between street level, the mezzanine and platforms 3–5.
This is part of a wider commitment to provide step-free access across all 41 Elizabeth line stations.

“With works also expected to complete at Ilford station very soon, the Elizabeth line will have step-free access provided at all stations, providing new journey options and unlocking new areas of London.”
Direct Elizabeth line services between Romford and central London are scheduled to begin on 6 November.
