DC/DC Converters for Railway Applications

The series PMGS/PCMGS14 DC/DC converters for railway applications comes with a nominal input voltage of 72 VDC or 110 VDC as standard, but may be provided with an output voltage of of 24 VDC 12 VDC and 48 VDC. The converters feature an input reverse polarity protection by a series diode and are continuous short circuit protected. They operate in most temperatures, from –25 to +70 °C. The EN 50 155, class T3 feature high efficiency of ≥90 % and an isolation voltage of 1.5 kVAC. They met safety standards acc. to EN 50 155, EN 50 124-1 and meet EMC regulations to EN 50 123-1. The converters may tolerate supply voltage interruptions of up to 10 ms, making them class S2 acc. to EN 50 155 compliant.

The converters are suitable for print (PMGS), chassis mounting (PCMGS) of DIN rail mounting. The dimensions of the devices are from 76,0 x 50,7 x 22,7 mm (PMGS) to 110,0 x 50,8 x 23,0 mm (PCMGS). MTM’s vacuum encapsulated (EP 1 987 708, U.S. Patent No. 8,821,778 B2) converters require no maintenance and are designed for use in devices with Protection Class II. They demonstrate a mechanically and electrically hardy design featuring SMD technology.

PCMDS Series Converters for Railway Applications

MTM’s DC/DC PCMDS series converters are designed for vehicle and rail technology, as well as industrial and telecommunications sectors. The converters are available with three wide input ranges in order to handle battery voltages of 24 V, 36 V, 48 V, 60 V, 72 V, 80 V, 96 V and 110 V acc. EN 50 155. There are also 30 W, 60 W, 80 W and 150 W output power available, with galvanically isolated output voltages of 5 V – 48 V. The converters are connected by spring clamps to meet the stringent requirements of railway application. The thermoselective vacuum encapsulation guarantees homogeneous heat dissipation in addition to high resistance to environmental factors including shock, vibration and humidity. The converters do not require ground load. They are protected from short-circuiting by primary and secondary power limiting and reverse polarity protection by active input current limiting.

High Voltage Converters for Railway Applications

The 250 W HVC series high voltage converters for railway applications have an input range of 400 to 975 VDC and standard output range of 24 VDC and 36 VDC. The highly efficient system (>88%) is also ergonomically designed and compact, (330 x 170 x 87 mm) in order to operate in locations lacking forced ventilation. These converters operate at temperatures between -40 to +85 °C acc. to EN 50 155. These converters supply equipment out of V / 750 V contact wire, making them idea to supply points, signal lamps and electronic monitoring of the rail network. The products are used in Linz as in electronic security devices at level crossings. The self-starting module on the HVC series is ideal for trams and trolley buses to avoid last-mile towing. The design of all of MTM’s devices guarantees its operation in difficult environmental conditions.

Active Transient Filters

MTM’s active transient filters (ATF) are designed to suppress energy-rich transients from mains, as specified by British standard RIA12. These front-end filters are to be used with MTM Power DC/DC converters series. Their vacuum encapsulated active filter modules with an aluminum base plate and connector (either screw connector or spring clamp) are hardwearing and protected against short-circuiting in the lifeline.
