Soundsafe Moveable Mini Noise Barrier as an Alternative to Regular Noise Barriers

Soundsafe Movable Mini Noise Barrier Proven to Be a Full-Fledged Alternative to Regular Noise Barriers of 2,5 Meters High or More

GSF Rail Infra’s new mini noise barrier, the SoundSafe Movable, has been acoustically tested in a practical situation by independent engineering firm DGMR. The report of this assessment has been reviewed by ProRail (the Dutch railway network operator) and is now final.

The test comprised in-situ measurements in 9 different situations to offer insight in all possible situations and configurations.

These tests conclusively show that GSF’s mini noise barrier offers a realistic alternative to common noise barrier heights. Depending on the situation, the mini noise barrier can be an alternative to noise barriers of 2.5 to 3 metres high at 4.85 metres from the heart of the track.

Thanks to this report, the SoundSafe Movable is the first demonstrably full-fledged low-level alternative to regular noise barriers. Because the SoundSafe Movable only protrudes 76 cm above the rail (platform height) and is very close to the track, it does not disturb the view of local residents, but it does reduce noise just as much as regular high noise barriers. Due to its innovative supporting structure the SoundSafe movable is easily folded away for (track) maintenance work. The track is then fully available for maintenance activities, e.g. tamping.

The SoundSafe Movable is available with metal panels (available in any colour) and as an environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing wooden variant. Both variants have a life span of 50 years, are maintenance free, and meet all requirements set by ProRail.
