Hitachi Rail and Sumitomo Corporation have been contracted to deliver the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system for Phase 2A of Jakarta’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) North–South Line.
The contract, known as CP207 Automatic Fare Collection System (Lebak Bulus–Kota), was awarded by PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta (Perseroda) (MRT Jakarta) and covers the expansion of fare collection infrastructure along the next stage of the capital’s metro network.

Under the agreement, Hitachi Rail will act as system integrator and solution provider for a new account-based ticketing system designed to support fare payment and passenger access across the MRT network. The project forms part of MRT Jakarta’s plans to expand digital and integrated mobility services.
The scope of work includes the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of an end-to-end AFC solution for seven new stations on the North–South Line Phase 2. The contract also includes the development of software and system interfaces for 13 existing stations on Phase 1 of the network.
The upgraded AFC platform will support integration with external payment systems, including payment gateways and JakLingko, Jakarta’s public transport integration platform. The system is intended to provide passengers with a wider range of payment options while supporting operational management across the network.
The agreement was signed in June 2026 and is expected to contribute to MRT Jakarta’s ongoing transition towards cashless ticketing and integrated transport services.
Yves Baumgartner, Vice President of Line of Business Revenue Collection Systems at Hitachi Rail, said:This another significant AFC project won by Hitachi Rail in Jakarta, further demonstrating our presence and commitment to the Indonesian transport market. We are committed to supporting MRT Jakarta in advancing its vision for a smarter, more connected, and future‑ready urban mobility network. This innovative AFC system will not only enhance the passenger experience but also lay the foundation for a fully integrated Mobility‑as‑a‑Service ecosystem across the city.
The MRT Jakarta Phase 2A project is financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), with OCG-JPCN acting as consultant to MRT Jakarta. The wider project forms part of Jakarta’s urban transport development programme, which aims to improve connectivity and public transport capacity across the metropolitan area.
The MRT Jakarta North–South Line currently connects southern and central areas of the Indonesian capital. Phase 2A will extend the route further north, adding new stations and expanding the network’s coverage.
