A set of freight trains carrying dedicated containers for power lithium batteries have recently completed a transportation trial across two cross-regional routes: Yibin-Shanghai and Ningde-Chengdu.
Developed by CRRC, the lithium battery containers have now entered a regular rail trial operation stage, marking a key transition in China’s transportation of such technology from periodic pilot operations to broader, cross-regional regular operations.
Classified as Class 9 dangerous goods; power lithium batteries are subject to stringent requirements when in railway transit within areas such as safety protection, structural strength, and resistance to vibration and impact.
In order to facilitate their transportation, CRRC-affiliated companies developed dedicated containers featuring optimised internal protective systems and cargo securing designs, enhancing safety throughout the transportation process.
