Hitachi Rail has been awarded a signalling contract covering the construction of two new stations on Singapore’s North-South Line.

The contract includes signalling works for the NS3A infill station and NS6, which is planned as a future interchange with the Downtown Line 2 extension.

Hitachi Rail will integrate both stations into the existing operational railway using its SELTRAC™ Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology. The work will be carried out by the company’s Singapore-based team.

The project will involve system integration, testing and commissioning, with the aim of introducing the new infrastructure while maintaining passenger services on the North-South Line.

NS3A will be constructed as an infill station on the existing line, while NS6 is intended to support future network expansion and provide additional operational flexibility through its planned interchange with the Downtown Line 2 extension.

The signalling systems for both stations will be integrated with the existing North-South Line infrastructure.

Hitachi Rail’s SELTRAC CBTC technology is already deployed on metro networks in cities including New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore.

The contract forms part of Hitachi Rail’s ongoing work with Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) on signalling integration and rail modernisation projects.

Alfredo Drago, Head of APAC Region SRS at Hitachi Rail, said:

The addition of NS3A and NS6 will play an important role in supporting Singapore's growing transportation needs.

Our team focused on developing a plan designed to minimise disruption to existing operations. By leveraging our proven SELTRAC™ CBTC technology and our extensive local delivery experience, we will integrate these new stations into the network while maintaining the levels of reliability passengers expect every day.
