Dynamic Testing Begins on Full Tuen Ma Line

Dynamic train testing has begun on the full rapid-transit Tuen Ma Line, Hong Kong, ahead of its opening in 2021.

The Sha Tin to Central Link (SCL) project has passed a major milestone with the overhead lines being made live and the start of dynamic train testing along the full Tuen Ma Line. This milestone marks the transition from the construction stage to the testing and commissioning stage.

Stage 1 of the Tuen Ma Line, from Tai Wai to Kai Tak, opened to passenger transport in February 2020. This second stage will run to Hung Hom. The final section of overhead line was energised in July 2020, allowing the start of dynamic train testing for the signalling system to begin in August. These tests and statutory inspections will steadily expand to cover the full length of the line to make sure that the systems are fully integrated with the existing lines.

James Chow, Divisional General Manager, Projects Construction, MTR Corporation, said:

“The overhead line energisation is a critical milestone for the project as it allows train testing to commence along the whole railway alignment. It brings us a step closer to the full opening of the TML. Moving ahead, the team is now focused on completing the remaining TML works so we can open the railway for the public. This will provide real benefit to the travelling public in the Kowloon East area.”
